Power to the…monks

In an exciting development, thousands of Buddhist monks have taken to the streets of Burma for a seventh day of protest in the biggest show of opposition to the military regime since the 1989 uprising. The monks were able to enter the area next to democracy leader Suu Kyi’s house yesterday but were prevented from doing the same today. The monks are asking people to join them and have vowed to march until the generals step down. Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Suu Kyi is still under house arrest, she was able however to greet the protesters and supposedly prayed with the monks. How this is going to end is still not clear, it could end very badly if the military decides to crackdown on the demonstrators as it did in 1998 when about 3000 people were killed. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen…

  1. Nothing is more beautiful than a peaceful revolution! More power to these monks and the civilians brave enough to join them!
