The Little Mermaid

When Lara and Nabih were here visiting, we went to see the little mermaid. It is not really impressive but a must see I suppose as a tourist attraction as it is one of the most visited tourist attractions.
So the little mermaid is in honor of the tale by H.C. Andersen… Scroll down the page a bit to see his statue.
So, similarly to the pink lipstick on Andersen’s statue, the Little Mermaid has also been vandalized on numerous occasions, the last one being in 2003 when the statue of the mermaid was dislodged from the rock and pushed into the sea.

Hans Christian Andersen

Hans Christian Andersen seems to be the most cherished Dane here. This year, Denmark is celebrating his 200 birthday so 2005 is completely dedicated to him. Andersen is a famous author, most notably known for the “Little Mermaid” book. He is the original author of the fairy tale of the mermaid, which Disney later adopted. If you look closely at the picture, you will see that someone has painted his lips and eyelashes with pink lipstick.
